My taskbar keeps disappearing randomly and will not come back until I restart.  Once I restart the taskbar comes back and then disappears again. I have looked at the other solutions from people having similar problems and the solutions do not work.

open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Task Manager)

Click on File>New Task (Run) and enter "explorer.exe" (without the quotes)

Then click OK.

Does it come back?

Huh. I had this same issue, but it disappeared when I undid the change that caused it:

I had installed a screen saver called system47, star trek theme, not made for Win7 but thought Id give it a shot. Nice screensaver, too bad causes this issue tho.

-Exactly-, this issue, just to be clear. Start bar vanishes, but windows logo start button remains. Doesnt come back unless reboot, or kill and restart explorer.exe

"Only 1%. " Knowing the typical end user, Ill bet that's the percent of people that'd install a piece software unrated for their system.. and then whine for someone else to fix it.

3 years down the road, MS is still only offering a temp fix. Guys just give up. There wont be any fix whatsoever. MS is awesome that way.

Same thing here after I installed the initial scan to get Windows 7 update.

    TEMPORARY FIX:

Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Start Task Manager)

    Click on the PROCESSES tab

Find the "explorer.exe" under IMAGE Name and click on it

Click "End Process" (Lower right corner) (This closes the previous explorer desktop)

Click on FILE (upper left corner)

    Click on NEW TASK

    Type in "explorer"

    Hit OK button

I've also noticed that if I close out all of my applications and then put machine into sleep mode, when I wake it, the task bar is still active.  If my machine starts the screen saver or is left idle too long, my task bar disappears again.

COME ON GUYS:  FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!  I"m tired of the work around.

I AGREE... IT DOES WORK BUT WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?? PLEASE FIX THE ISSUE.. IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND DISAPPOINTING SINCE I UPGRADED TO WIN7... SHOULDA SWITCHED TO A MAC!
