Hi turbo, You are right, it is from the office remover. What I did was that I resotred to an earlier point in time and instead of uninstalling office technical preview 2010 x64 to install office 2010 x32, I bought the office x64 version of office so I won't get the error message: You can't install 32-bit office when you have 64-bit office installed.    I never did solve this problem. I did not have a chance to try acerisftw's solution my problem started back in July 6th, and I needed the use of my notebook, So I had no choice but to reformat the HD and started from sctatch. still not done re-installing my stuff.. grrrr.. 

   After reading the posts, and as I always ask when a problem asises, "what has changed", I am 99% sure that it was the Office 2010 Beta remover that caused this. It must be specific to an instalation, or a product version, or perhaps hardware.  I see no other commonality, but people are not posting Operating systems or hardware on this thread. If it was the Office Beta remover software by itself as the problem, we would see a whole lot more posts and complaints in the forums. So my conclusion it is the Office 2010 Beta remover AND another factor(s) in combination.

To repost my specs at the tme of the crash:

HP dv9000 4 gig ram

Stand alone - no Domain or homegroup

Windows 7 Ultimate installed since it was released

fingerprint reader installed, but I get the same error using a password 

up to date on service packs, MS Defender, AVG (free ver), Malware (free ver), Spybot (free ver)

The 2010 Beta was from the public site. The Win 7 Ultimate was a corporate MAK key. The Office uninstaller was from the MS Public site.

Running a variety of basic sofware, CS4 was on, No programming, debugging or network software.

IE, Firefox, Itunes... not a lot of plugins....  just standard stuff..

Anyone see a common element here ?

   I have been avoiding installing the Office 2010 release on two other computers as I was hoping there migh be a fix before the beta expired.

   One of the computers is very similar HP Laptop to the one that this happened to. I will be trying to move it to the Office 2010 Release in the next few days (I will make an image 1st!).

   I will let you know my success of failure..   :-)

This did not work for me. I was actually missing the entire rpclocator key. Added it back, mirroring the other hive. No luck.

Last night I did the Office 2010 beta remover to wake up to this today. Thanks MS for another solid product that comes at the expense of hours of my time.

I solved it!!!!!

Steps:

1. Start Computer, once it starts repeatedly press f8
2. A screen should come up saying: safe mode, safe mode with networking etc..., click "repair my computer"
3. Then login (it will let you), restore to a previous time in the past (using system restore) or use these commands in the command prompt option: ·        Type REGEDIT ·        Press the Enter key on your keyboard ·        Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ·        Click File ·        Click Load Hive… ·        Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config (Assuming C:\ is the partition Windows is installed on) ·        Click SYSTEM ·        Click Open ·        Give the temporary hive a name Now check the registry entries listed under the hive you just created. Make sure that your working HP computer entries match the ones on the machine we’re working on. Please also post the entries that you find on the RpcSs and RpcLocator keys and what information you create/replace on the RpcSs and RpcLocator keys. Once finished here are the steps to load the hive back into Windows 7’s registry: ·        While still in Registry Editor, select the temporary hive you created above ·        Click File ·        Click Unload Hive ·        Click Yes
