Sound Blaster X-Fi and Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi on a Dell XPS 710.  Installed Windows 7 64-bit.  Everything went great.  Downloaded and installed the new drivers from Creative for this sound card and Windows 7/64.  It installs but I get a staticy echo sound to everything.  Is there a fix?  The drivers are dated 6/2009.

: WORKAROUND:

I claim NO responsibility if you mess this up but you can use this as a temporary work around until it is resolved by creative labs without removing memory... physically.

First run MSCONFIG

select the boot tab

select advanced options

under max memory select 3990 (or any value under 4 GB is fine IE anything less than 1024 * 4)

This will reduce the amount of memory that the PC uses which will allow you to hear the audio.  There is also BETA testing of newer drivers from Creative (the most recent batch of BETAS did not resolve the issue) that I am a part of.  When there is a working beta I will respond so we can all utilize our 64x machines.

    I have the Win 7 32 bit version and was not able to install drivers for my SB audigy, and was able to make my onboard audio work, only after removing the sound card and then activated the onborard Audio. Matter of fact none of my 3 pci ports are working on my Intel DG 33FB mobo. I have device called Simple communication Controller that cant be activated with win 7 due to lack ofsupport for this type of motherboard. My   sound is working now with my Realtek drivers.

    Okay before I give you the link here is MY system that these drivers worked on.

    NForce 4 MB

    Intel Pentium D 3.00 GHz Proc

    2 GForce 8500 GT (SLi Mode)

    Running Win 7 64x of course

    8 GB Corsair mem

    I ordinarly never use third party drivers but after a bit of research and despiration I tried the following link

    This modded driver worked on my system.  I understand if you are leary about using 3rd party drivers (I saw this link a few days ago and researched alternatives first).  Mind the spelling but I am just too tired and happy to care.  It comes in 7z format so while you are waiting on the 80 M download google 7 zip.  It is just an open source (correct me if I am wrong) extraction and compression utility.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5400+ CPU at 2.81 GHz no over clocking

    nVidia PCIex display

    8 gigs of DDR 800 RAM

    X_Fi Xtreme gamer sound card...for now

    Never had a lick of trouble under XP Pro 64 with 4 gigs of RAM but was advised to add another 4 gigs when moving up to Win7 Home Premium 64 and the sound went from wondrous to horrid!

    The motherboard sound is via USB so I can't use that option without another hardware purchase and if I've got to go that way it will be via a different brand of PCI sound card.  ( I hope you are getting this Creative )

    I've installed the above third party driver pack and it mostly works. Not all of the sound card's abilities are restored but it is a vast improvement over a noisy or silent machine.

    Kaspersky Internet security 2010 finds nothing to object to, so far.

    This situation will do for now, allow me a workable machine, until Creative Labs gets their situation straightened out or I get sufficiently disgusted as to bail on Creative and take my money elsewhere.

    One question: would the driver in this pack work if nothing of Creative's software were changed except the driver?

    Dave, The post proposed as answer from you by 1STONEWALL01 was most helpful. You believe I spent thousands of dollars to MS for uprades, Operating Sytems, and software/ thousands to Dell for p/cs, warranty support, etc.? MS told my to d/l latest driver from Dell when available: Dell to me to check with Creative for latest driver, and Creative said check with MS.   Hmmmmm.

    Now, Creative says to check with computer mgf for (OEM) sound cards...I am about ready to throw in the towel. I hear tell that Linix Red Hat or Mac is a possible solution.
