Sound Blaster X-Fi and Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi on a Dell XPS 710.  Installed Windows 7 64-bit.  Everything went great.  Downloaded and installed the new drivers from Creative for this sound card and Windows 7/64.  It installs but I get a staticy echo sound to everything.  Is there a fix?  The drivers are dated 6/2009.

: WORKAROUND:

I claim NO responsibility if you mess this up but you can use this as a temporary work around until it is resolved by creative labs without removing memory... physically.

First run MSCONFIG

select the boot tab

select advanced options

under max memory select 3990 (or any value under 4 GB is fine IE anything less than 1024 * 4)

This will reduce the amount of memory that the PC uses which will allow you to hear the audio.  There is also BETA testing of newer drivers from Creative (the most recent batch of BETAS did not resolve the issue) that I am a part of.  When there is a working beta I will respond so we can all utilize our 64x machines.

Finally i see that i'm not the only one who's having problem with my soundcard.

I've got windows 64 with 6GB installed and when i'm playing a game the sound stops after a while. Even in the devicemanager the creative card is gone OMG.

When i use the same pc but then with windows 32 bit (not more then 3.2GB in use but still 6 GB in the system) the games work fine and no stopping sounds. Even for hours no problem.

I think that its a combination of 64bits and more than 4 GB of memory AND a x-fi soundblaster installed on your machine.

The only solution i can think of is downgrading from 64bits to 32bits, but then again why have i bought a pc with more than 4 GB in it;) and use a 64bits OS?

The question is: who must solve this problem course this is an Microsoft and/or Creative problem

Woodenfluter, sorry to hear this solution did not work for you. As mentioned in my posts, I have only tested this on 32-bit systems. I was just thinking about upgrading to the 64-bit system.

What version of Creative drivers are you using?

You are correct about the modded drivers, it reduces sound quality dramatically. I forgot to mention that. Thanks.

Note:  I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit edition, using a Creative X-Fi.  Upgrading Windows 7 to SP1 does NOT resolve this issue--although the crackling is reduced, it is very much still there.

Running with 3GB RAM is the only way I've found to run Creative drivers without crackling and audio distortion.

The modded drivers referred to above do work, but the sound quality is drastically reduced compared to the Creative drivers.

UPDATE: The unofficial and unsupported A uzenForte Pack 1.0 does not work with Windows 7 SP1 RC. It installs fine, and works for while, but then stops working completely. If you've installed this already completely uninstall all the components form control panel (you don't have to uninstall the Volume Panel if you like this feature), then uninstall the sound card from Device Manager including the driver, reboot your workstation, then install theCreative Labs beta driver version 2.18.0015 and the beta application Creative Console Launcher version 2.61.49. You can download these from the Creative Labs support site.
