Sound Blaster X-Fi and Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi on a Dell XPS 710.  Installed Windows 7 64-bit.  Everything went great.  Downloaded and installed the new drivers from Creative for this sound card and Windows 7/64.  It installs but I get a staticy echo sound to everything.  Is there a fix?  The drivers are dated 6/2009.

: WORKAROUND:

I claim NO responsibility if you mess this up but you can use this as a temporary work around until it is resolved by creative labs without removing memory... physically.

First run MSCONFIG

select the boot tab

select advanced options

under max memory select 3990 (or any value under 4 GB is fine IE anything less than 1024 * 4)

This will reduce the amount of memory that the PC uses which will allow you to hear the audio.  There is also BETA testing of newer drivers from Creative (the most recent batch of BETAS did not resolve the issue) that I am a part of.  When there is a working beta I will respond so we can all utilize our 64x machines.

    It could be the ac3filter is the resolution to this issue if someone could install a current version with there current creative drivers and see if they get a resolution to the static issue? On a side note: I was using 64 bit ultimate w7 before and did not have the static issue a glitch made me reinstall and i got the static. I know i had the ac3 filter on previously to resolve something else in the past. this might be why it took so long for this issue to appear for me as I have been using ultimate 64 bit since retail release.

    I had the same problem windows 7 64 bit ultimate no version of creative dirvers would resolve the static issue.

    was using this youtube file as a test as teh opening music conistently caused the static.

    Now with this driver version 6.0.1.1373 driver date 6/3/2009 and this ac3filter ac3filter_1_63b I have initially seemed to eliminated the static issue. I have a quick test as assasins creed was riddled with static.

    If someone else could comfirm my observations that would be great.

    I can verify that the new drivers do not fix the issue.

    It's hard for me to believe they would have a coding error in their drivers, or broken development tools either, this late in the game.  So at this point what I'm suspecting is a firmware issue between card and motherboard.

    At this point I do not expect to ever see this successfully resolved.  Unfortunately, because of it, I will never again be purchasing Creative products.  They simply aren't dependable and lack serious support.

    As a musician, I depend heavily upon my sound equipment.  Apparently I take it much more seriously than does Creative.

    I don't think Creative will ever fix this. Thy keep saying it's my motherboards fault. Seams to me if it works with 2 gig it should work with 4 or 6 or what ever my motherboard can handle. I bot this card from them be for I upgraded to win 7 64 bit because it was supposed to work with the upgrade...I will now have to buy from a competitor hoping that thy aren't uuum fabricating the truth also.
