Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working

I'm having the same problem.  It's such a relief to know my pictures aren't gone! I didn't understand why I could still access them through Olympus Master when they were no longer in Pictures. Also, if I try to save another print-screen with the same name as one I'd used before, I receive an error message that the name can't be used.

I attempted to follow the steps you posted to "unhide" my pictures, but I'm afraid I didn't get very far. When I right-click Pictures and go to Pictures Properties, I don't see a General tab. The only tab says, Library. Under Library locations is a checked folder, My Pictures, and the unchecked Public Pictures, which are the only pictures I've seen since I got  "FakeAlert.grb" twice, 3 seconds apart, and flagged as trojans by both McAfee and the Quick Scan of Trojan Remover.

The only way to regain control after this happened was to power off the computer. When I turned it on, everything was black. I did a System Restore back to the last restore point, which was the one done at the time of the last Windows 7 updates. Except for the missing pictures, everything seemed better, but not like it was before this happened. A few days later, my Excel spreadsheet was blank, as well as all of my stats in a downloaded game. Someone suggested I go back to an even earlier restore point to see if it would solve these problems, along with the missing pictures. The Excel data returned, but it didn't restore the game stats or pictures. Of course, going back to the earlier restore point meant having to get the updates again.

I know this is a stupid question, but I'm not very computer-savvy. If I try to uncheck My Pictures, does Remove only remove the check-mark, or will it permanently delete everything that is, hopefully, still there but hidden? Until I do this, Apply is grayed-out, and OK only closes.

Like someone else said, this had been a good computer until this happened. Now I keep getting the Catalyst Control Centre Host application has stopped working error. I went to a link that was posted in response to someone asking how to correct this, but I didn't understand whether I should remove the one I have, or even how to tell which one was the correct one for me. It's also alarming that data keeps disappearing. It makes me wonder what's next.

I had trojan malware called System Fix. after I got rid of it following Googled instrutions.I installed a cleaner called Malwarebytes but the catalyst control center box came up saying it stopped working. Also the favorites online were empty and my desk top icons were gone. this fixed all of that. Thanks a bunch!

This may be the solution you are seeking.

I recently removed the Vista Recovery Center malware from another one of our company laptops. It has ATI graphics installed. This malware hides most of the files on the PC in an attempt to fool you into thinking that your PC is really damaged like it is reporting. Removing the malware does not undo the hidden aspects. In Vista, the c:\Users*"your profile name (usually Owner)"*  folder contains the AppData subdirectory that the Catalyst Control Center needs to access in order to function. When this directory is hidden, then CCC cannot locate the necessary files to launch. To fix this issue, I use the following steps.

Navigate to c:\ and right click on Users. Select properties. Under the General tab, look at the bottom for the Hidden selection. If there is not a check mark in the box, place a check mark there. Hit apply, select yes to apply to all subdirectories. If you clicked ok, you may notice that it disappeared from the right pane once it finishes. It should still be listed under the tree on the left. Right click on it again. This time remove the check mark and apply to all subdirectories. Once it has finished, your files in the Users directory should reappear and Catalyst Control Center should function normally again. This has worked in all cases that I have encounterd so far. Hopefully this works for you as well..

The users folder has totally disappeared and can't find it. Help!
