Hi there, have you tried this?Right click an empty space on your desktop, highlight desktop icons, place a check on 'lock icons in place' and uncheck'auto arrange,?
How can I lock desktop icons?
I am unable to LOCK the icon items on my desktop. I have clicked right on the desktop and via properties checked lock items, yet they are easily moved and NOT locked. I've tried locking them thru 'Appearances and Themes', yet they will NOT lock. How can I get them to stop moving around and stay put by locking. Any help would be graciously appreciated. And, no I am not changing my resolution which I know moves them.

2014-04-03T13:18:43+00:00 Windows 7 os
not a techie don't understand the HKEY business (without step-by-step instructions = not found those posts helpful)
However, DESKTOP RESTORE which has been mentioned before, WORKS for me!
Resolves locking destop icons in place W7
takes a snapshot of your desktop icons, and provides the option that Windows 7 believes is not required:
"Right click desktop and select option Restore Destop!!!"
restores your icons back in to place.
Available from: http://desktop-restore.software.informer.com/
ONLY accept download: DeskInstU.msi
[cancel 2nd download program which is a reporting back utility]
Once downloaded, reboot your pc.....
No desktop icon, but if you right click your desktop, you now have the added options:
[] Save Desktop
[] Restore Desktop
[] Custom Save/Restore
!!! Options which Microsoft in their wisdom view you do not need, that you should put up with losing your desktop layout/choice-display !!!!
Plug'n'play simplicity works for me (y) >:(

2014-05-12T14:05:24+00:00 Really?? There IS no 'desktop icons' option when right-clicking on the desktop, not to mention no 'lock icons in place'. There is the auto-arrange that can be unchecked. But the other items do not appear.

2014-07-20T14:57:44+00:00 This worked perfectly! Thank you! I had a difficult time trying to find out how to do this. Several places wanted me to download a program, but I knew there was a technical fix for it. Thanks!
