How can I lock desktop icons?

I am unable to LOCK the icon items on my desktop. I have clicked right on the desktop and via properties checked lock items, yet they are easily moved and NOT locked. I've tried locking them thru 'Appearances and Themes', yet they will NOT lock. How can I get them to stop moving around and stay put by locking. Any help would be graciously appreciated. And, no I am not changing my resolution which I know moves them.

Hi there,have you tried this?Right click an empty space on your desktop,highlight desktop icons,place a check  on 'lock icons in place' and uncheck'auto arrange,?

    The reason I asked is that the double word would usually be given type REG_DWORD. The 'hex' array is unusual.

    So I wondered why REG_DWORD 0 was expressed that way.  My guess was that there are actually separate things controlled by the 4 bytes..

    I agree . You can see above my comment about this (May 27, 2012). Here below is an extract:

    "I did create two Registry values manually (see  below), as the import of your .reg file did not create the value in my Registry, even after cleaning the extra spaces as mentioned else where.

    Finally, the Registry export in my case is the following, slightly diffrent from yours:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

    “NoSaveSettings”==dword:000000001"

    So the hex thing should be related to Windows 9X or any prior system dealing with Regedit V3 maybe V4 format.

    There is no such command as "lock icons in place". Would that it were so. Only align to grid and autoalign

    I'm so glad I finally looked online for a solution to this annoying problem. 

    Worked for me! Thanks man!

    One question though. What should I do with the notepad file now? Is it ok to delete it or should I save it in a folder in case I need it again?
