Code error 80072EFE during Windows Update

Hi

I have seen this error quite often.

Error 80072EFE is related to Update server closing the connection.

Mosty likely, the computer may be infected with ROOTKITS.

Try to run TDSSKILLER to find any rootkits.

Download and run from here

http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

Then try to update Windows

Thanks Ramesh, this worked. I tried norton internte security, malware programs(spybot, onecare safety scan & malwarebytes). nothing worked. i was scared to run this one when i first saw 2 weeks ago. after reading other answers i tried, it removed one rootkit and windows update is working again.

I dont know my computer got infected. it always had upto date antivirus program & i frequently run malwarebytes. Thanks Much!

I am running windows 7 32bit and i had the same problem for a few months too!!!! After spending soo long searching for answers, i thought i'd give this a try and was shocked to find out it worked!!!!!! So thank you for this link Ramesh as it did find an infection and i must say, after removing it, my system seems so much more fresh :)

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input about my computer problem the no reading disk,wouldn't download my updates I took your advice and did the cleanup on my hard drive TDSSKILLER now everything is working just fine thanks a million you guy are the best it to many of you to name but you know who you are.
