I have tried several times to install the disk that came with my Cannon EOS Digital Camera but Windows 7 does not recognize the drivers, Windows XP did with no issues. Cannon says their old driver is compatable with Windows 7. Can anyone help?

I've had the same problem since I went to Vista, but in checking on the boards, I found an undocumented trick!!!
Turn the camera on, and go to the menu.
On the 4th menu tab select the "Communications" entry and change it from NORMAL to PTP
Plug the camera back into the laptop, wait 30 seconds, and enjoy your camera again

Which version of Windows 7 are you using? is it 32bit or 64bit as the support paper from Canon only lists 32bit as supported amd/or not supporting the EOS utility and images only viewable via the memory card http://www.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/Windows7_compatibility.pdf
If you just plug in the camera, does Windows load a basic storage driver? with this you can get to download your images from the camera to PC. You could also try with the XP driver to right click the setup and choose Run as Administrator, odd times it dos allow a driver to install.

I agree that the card readers are faster and nice but the ablity to use other feathers of the camera are gone with out a driver that will work in windows. I spoke to canon about the issue and all they had to provided was that it's the maker of the OS. I partually agree. They made a product that states it's compatible and works under the OS but when it doesn't they don't know how to fix it nor will they try.

You never need to connect your camera directly. Buy a card reader for
the type of flash card your camera uses (they are very inexpensive),
put the flash card into it, and plug it into a USB port.
Personally, I prefer doing it this way. It's easier and doesn't use
the camera's battery. I have two such card readers--one that I keep on
my desk, near my desktop computer, and another that I keep in my
laptop case for use when traveling.

I'm also having the same problem that most of you are having. This is def a Windows 7 issue. I have 3 different camera and all of them give the same error loading the driver. In the past the camera would connect to windows 7 and work fine. I have even been able to connect it to other windows 7 machines and it works. I will compare registry settings to see if this is a key between the two windows 7 installs.
