HP Multi-function printers may not work as expected after upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7

Hello,

I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista and my HP multi-function printer doesn’t work. I can still print if I print from an application but when I try to use the buttons on the printer nothing happens. I also can’t check things like ink levels and I can’t scan. Is this a known issue? What can I do to fix this?

Hello Christi,

This is a known issue with the HP Solution Center and upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Basically the HP Solution Center doesn’t upgrade properly to Windows 7 because of some required libraries don’t get migrated during the upgrade. To resolve the issue, click Start, All Programs and click Windows Update, and then check for and install the update for KB 975891.

    Thanks to many,   (upgrade from XP to 7 Home).  For me it was to delete Arcsoft in Control Panel.  Then Delete all printers (and the fax in Win7) with the exception of the Windows XPS document printer.  Then plugged in the printer, USB, (psc 1200 series) and turned it on.  Windows found the proper driver, and even my wife's Printmaster program works well. 

    One caveat, the driver it found said something like Dot4 , which I didn't look at very closely (and was happy when the thing worked), then realized that I had downloaded a Dot4Patch and had it on the desktop.  Hope this helps.  Whoopee

    I have the opposite problem: I just purchased a Windows 8 HP after my Dell crashed after 7 yrs. I have a good, but older HP All in One. It is interesting, the scanner works, but the printer won't. Should I expect it to? Being a senior, I hate to get rid of my Printer scanner as it will be another expense.
