HP Multi-function printers may not work as expected after upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7

Hello,

I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista and my HP multi-function printer doesn’t work. I can still print if I print from an application but when I try to use the buttons on the printer nothing happens. I also can’t check things like ink levels and I can’t scan. Is this a known issue? What can I do to fix this?

Hello Christi,

This is a known issue with the HP Solution Center and upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Basically the HP Solution Center doesn’t upgrade properly to Windows 7 because of some required libraries don’t get migrated during the upgrade. To resolve the issue, click Start, All Programs and click Windows Update, and then check for and install the update for KB 975891.

    I had the same problem. I had to go to the HP website and download the driver for my printer for Windows 7, (instead of the CD driver for Vista that came with the printer)  and now it works just fine, even with bluetooth.

    Do you happen to remember the link since you did not post it? and are you on vista or win 7? I have been fighting for 8 days and kids have tried as well to get this scanner working on the hp6500.

    I've got much the same problem.

    I used a HP C5180 multi-function printer and a HP laptop.  I've just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium.  Originally, my printer was connected over my network but following the upgrade it kept going offline (re-setting it's IP seemed to fix it temporarily but doing so was too inconvenient).

    So, instead I uninstalled it and re-installed it using a USB connection.  The installation went well and my test page printed but now - whenever I print from an application - the document just spools and then deletes itself from the print queue without actually being printed.

    HP's website seems to identify the problem as being associated with the uninstall not fully removing the vista drivers (which are now conflicting with Windows 7).  However, the two solutions it provides don't work because:

    1. The HP link to the Printer Driver Removal Utility doesn't work (File not found)
    2. The manual approach using Windows Print Management doesn't seem to be available in Windows Home Premium.

    Right now, I've spent hours un-installing and re-installing and I still don't have a working printer.  I'm mostly annoyed with HP for not rectifying this but I'm also annoyed with Microsoft for removing a very simply program which would allow me to remove the old driver manually.

    I'd appreciate a response from anyone who can tell me how to rid my computer of the vista driver.

    you may of talked to the wrong person at lexmark they had a fix for my lexmark x7170 all in one printer and down loaded it over the phone an it works like new I am on windows 7 64 bit and i could not do a down load using the printer cd that came with printer because  the printer is 32 bit they took over my computer over the phone and i could see every thing they were doing on my computer screen an the man that installed it was nice my son knows more about computers so he called them and answered ther qustions
