How to change monitor 1 for monitor 2

Hi,

Are any System Windows opening on Monitor 1 (the non-main display)?

If so drag them to Monitor 2.

Try this with all windows closed to start.

1. On monitor 2 - Right Click the desktop - View - uncheck Align to Grid
2. If any icons are on #1 move them to #2.
3. Then make #1 the main monitor as if you planned to leave it that way.
4. Did all the icons move? If not drag them to monitor #1.
5. Then make monitor #2 the main display again.
6. If the selection Window is on monitor #1 drag it to monitor #2.
7. Move all icons you need to monitor #2 (if any are on monitor #1)
8. Set icons as you wish on Monitor #2 and repeat step 1. above but this time

recheck Align to Grid. No icons you don't want to be three should be on

monitor #1.

If any programs you don't want to open on monitor #1 do open there drag

them to #2 and close and re-open them there.

Hopefully that resets the settings :

All you're doing is changing where icons are placed and where some applications auto-open. You're not actually changing which monitor is 1 and which is 2. That's what needs to be fixed.

As I've been messing with all of this, another thing I've found to be odd is that within my AMD Catalyst Control Center for my video card, I do have control of the numbering. I can change which monitor is 1, 2, and 3 and then rearrange them however I want with those numbers staying there. But Windows doesn't respect those settings. I open AMD CCC and it shows that everything is set up the way I want it, but Windows doesn't seem to care about the graphics card settings.

The issue you are having with the CC Center is exactly why I suggested

the methods I did in my last reply (to reset them).

In your case check with ATI/AMD Support and their forums about that

CCC issue which is theirs to resolve and not something in Windows.

No no no no no.  You still don't get it, yes it does matter which one is 1 or 2 or 3 for programs.  For your initial desktop which you are thinking of, it doesn't matter.  You can just swap left or right as needed. 

However, certain programs open to, use, or default specifically to monitor 1 regardless of where you have it placed.  So if monitor 1 is your TV and monitor 2 is your desktop, some programs will open to your tv, and you have to drag them over to  your desktop monitor to do your work.  Things like that, which are really annoying, is why people are complaining you can't change the number of the monitor.
