How to change monitor 1 for monitor 2

Hmm. Thats really odd. I just tried it myself. Worked flawlessly. This must be something specific to docking stations. The OP mentioned a dock correct? And I saw others mentioning docks. I know it works on a regular desktop. I've done it on many different ones and various video cards. It's possible that it's something to do with how windows recognizes ports from the video card that is on board on the laptop versus how it sees the ports which are part of the docking station. Ultimately the graphics are derived off the on board video card from the laptop but I imagine there is something inconsistent with how the ports are recognized on the dock versus the laptop.

That is really strange. I've done this so many times with various versions of Windows and on multiple pieces of hardware over the years. But I cant remember if any specifically had a dock station involved.

The only thing you should have to do to quickly fix any of these issues with windows identifying monitors with a certain id or number is simply swap the cables on the back of your pc, laptop, or docking station (whichever you are using). That is the easiest way to change how windows sees which monitor has which monitor id or number. 

Just go on the back of your docking station, usb hub, or desktop and switch the cables. Let's say you have monitor "1" (which is physically on the right side of the desk) plugged into hdmi port 2 on the dock or video card and you have monitor "2" (which is physically on the left side of the desk) plugged into hdmi port 1 on the video card. Just switch monitor "1" so it's plugged into hdmi port 1 instead of hdmi 2 and then plug monitor "2" into hdmi port 2 instead of hdmi 1. Or maybe it's DVI or display port or any combination of these. It really doesn't matter. The point is you just need to switch around which ports each monitor is physically attached to on the video card or dock in order for windows to label and identify them differently.

We've all tried this already, it doesnt work.  Which is why we're all frustrated.

Same here!!! Fix this problem finally... users are complaining since 2009!!!!

BTW: This REG_FIX was in my opinion closest to the final solution... but it didnt work.. believe me, I have tried all possible solutions google could tell..

I have 2 monitors (DP->ID1, DVI->ID2) and no matter what I do (if I turn off monitor it doesnt help.. need to physically disconnect other one to have DVI as "main" one) always monitor via DVI, which I want to be my main, gets recognized as projector.. This creates 1 big issue for me, where AMD card does not detect anything on "main" monitor, it will go idle -> limiting performance because: It consider only "main" monitor in windows as primary one, used for gaming, HD videos and so..  and what is happening on "projector" monitor it doesnt care thus ignoring what is going on there..  so it will go into idle mode..
