After installing Windows 7 on HP laptop, getting message "plugged in not charging"

Ok. My laptop in an HP Pavilion dv6 and I've had it for about 4 months. After disconnecting the laptop for about 2 days, when I plugged it back in, it said "plugged in, not charging". This happened about a month in to my ownership. I followed the directions for the "delete the APCI driver" thing and that worked for me. Cut to now, which is about 3 months later. I had my laptop unplugged for about a week while I was on vacation. Now I'm having the problem again. I've tried all the suggestions here, and it still says it's not charging. My battery is at 97% currently. I will wait until it gets to 95% and see what happens then.

I'm really curious about Microsoft's input. Why hasn't anyone official commented on this thread since the beginning? This is obviously a continuing problem. This laptop is brand new, so I can't "go back" to an earlier version of Windows. I flatly refuse to "upgrade" to Win 8 since it's a piece of ****.

Matt102 has provided a solution for “ Plugged in not charging” that seems to have helped a few posters in this thread which is below:

 

I had the same problem with my Compaq after upgrading to a 12-cell aftermarket white box battery. What I did first was I uninstalled and reinstalled "Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery" and that did not work, so I followed the steps below:

 

1. close laptop and remove battery (while still on).
2. open lid and remove AC adapter (while still on, will power off system)
3. close lid and connect battery
4. open lid, connect AC adapter, and power on.

 

After I did the above, my system began to charge the battery.

Worked for me thanks...Just need to see if happens again. Is this a complete fix or will it happen again??

For all laptops these days there is three conductor cable that goes from the power supply to the laptop. The outer ring you see is the negative part of the terminal, inside the connector there is an inner positive ring. The very centre is a pin which is "sense". Almost always the thin wire going to the sense terminal has broken. If you crack open the case for the power supply (you don't need to) and take an ohm meter you will see an open circuit from the centre pin to the thin wire inside the power supply. You can cut the rubbery strain relief on the computer side with and exact lengthwise, be careful and you can reuse it with some electrical tape. De-solder the three wires from the terminal, cut about 6" from the remaining wire, strip the wire, resolder to terminal and you're done. All of the **** like: unplug, wait, change bios, dance on one foot, etc.. only "work" temporarily because you're flexed the intermittent bad connection.

I can confirm that some of the power supply's do have the 3 wire system although not all my DV3 2055EA Does but the DV2055 Doesn't so i would like to thanks Chris for this info it may help me a great deal.. Thanks Chris.

can some one tell me how i am going to do any of this when my battery is now completely flat i have a HP Pavilion DV3 2055EA that doesn't boot up if i do not have a battery installed !! Anyone have any idea how i might charge my battery out of the machine because it won't charge in it. when i plug in the power cable nothing happens on my LED's when i had a little power and when i press power but it boots up to post screen then the charging light is flashing and the power light is on but after maybe 20 sec's it shuts down because the battery is flat..... So at the moment i am screwed. this is a new battery and new charger pack the pack is fine i have checked voltage and that is correct......
