Windows 7 crashes on startup, "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed"

as far as the codec pack, MS has one for media player. the codec issue was just one of the issues within the complete thread. here is the one for media player from MS:

as far as the defective nVidia cards, i have seen them myself. the capacitors are blown off at the top, leaking from the bottom, or in some way in disfunctional state. the only way to diagnose this, is to take the video card out and inspect it. you cant miss the blown parts. as i recall its only nVidia chipsets put on certain manufacturers boards. i dont want to nail down to just one board as what it comes down to is cheap capacitors, in which only save the manufacturer of the board pennies.

you can try to manually install a Standard Video Driver and see if that alleiviates the situation or not. i'll check out the links you have given as well as the ones i have gathered to see if i can find more information on this issue. with so many nVidia boards out there, there are numerous issues that are pretty much unique to the board manaufacturer themselves.

if you keep up with repairing this, you will be glad you did. the many windows 7 systems i see with new nVidia boards look super-nice. excellent indeed. i'll get back when i have information  that is relevant. i have alert on this post, so its easy to get back.

Also, I've had  my PC cleaned with compressed air, also removed the graphics card and made sure there was no dust anywhere near it. Cleaned the fan as well.

I'm in the process of updating my DirectX as well as looking at that codec package, will get back to you soon.

Waiting for the new Nvidia drivers to see if they can fix the issue.

And @windowsfanny, I've seen Windows 7 + Nvidia and it does look amazing when it works, so I'm hoping I can get this fixed.

Also, when I uninstall the Nvidia driver, Windows automatically puts in a Standard VGA driver, which runs my pc fine minus any graphical applications. Thats what I'm using at the moment, but its a bit of a waste since I cant use any of the Windows graphic effects, nor can I use the Blu-Ray player on my pc or run any games.
