right click on (Network)Printer , choose Properties , go to Ports tab, choose Configure Port , then un-check SNMP Status Enable option,

In windows vista my cable network printer shows offline now. Everything else is fine i can still go onto the internet etc. ??

2010-09-21T19:31:38+00:00 I had the same problem after upgrading to Windows 7, and clicking off the SNMP worked. Thanks. This troubleshooting tip should definitely be highlighted for anyone using a network printer. Mine is also a wireless network printer, for what it's worth.

Windows 7 Dell Laptop; Brother MFC8870DW printer. Printer works fine with all other XP laptops. Printer is on the MS-Approved list for Win7.
Have uninstalled and reinstalled (rebooting between) multiple times. Tried as Local printer, then connecting LPT1 to a fixed IP address for printer. Tried installing as a network printer. Tried various combinations of the checkboxes on the configuration page with SNMP (e.g. Raw, LP, etc).
Nothing has worked so far. Have read multiple forums and this problem appears with all brands of printers. Appears to be directly related to Windows 7.

2010-10-08T15:37:26+00:00 I have the same problem with about 120 users on Dell systems, most running Windows7. I've tried various solutions from updating NIC drivers and/or restarting the workstation service. I've had the most success with updating the NIC drivers to the latest version but I'm still not convinced that this is the answer.
Our server is running Windows Server 2003 R2 x64, supporting users running both XP and W7. We will be upgrading it to Windows Server 2008 R2 soon to see if that helps.
This issue is intermittent, most of the time everything is working fine, but I get about 3-5 calls a day from someone not being able to print, caused by printers going offline. I'm wondering if it is something with the printspooler in W7.
