network printer shows offline

On my one printer (Canon), the "configure port" is grayed out.  On my other (Brother) clicking "configure port" gives and error message. 

However, disabling the windows firewall works for both printers.

No if I could just stop windows from bugging me to turn my firewall back on..

how do you turn off the firewall?  is firewall a securety ro antvirus thing?

Try this (Win 7):

• Go to Control Panel -> Devices and Printers.
• Right-click on the greyed-out printer and select "See What's Printing."
• Click on the "Printer" menu and uncheck "Use Printer Offline."

If this worked, smile a little, and pass the solution on to some of the zillions who're having this problem. If not, sorry to take your time, and good luck!

I had the same issue. easy fix. all I did was type services in your windows search bar and then find printer spooler in the services right click and restart it. then ensure its set to automatic.

right click on (Network)Printer , choose Properties , go to Ports tab, choose Configure Port , then un-check SNMP Status Enable option,
