network printer shows offline

In windows vista my cable network printer shows offline now. Everything else is fine i can still go onto the internet etc. ??

right click on (Network)Printer , choose Properties , go to Ports tab, choose Configure Port , then un-check SNMP Status Enable option,

I had same problem and this solution solved for me, hope this will help for u.

    Hi folks

    I had to fight the same issues in a network environment running a brother MFC-9440CN printer with multiple Workstations running Windows 7 (both x86 and x64 versions). All of a sudden after months of troublefree service, the printer switched to offline without obvious reasons. Pinging was always successful and data comunication still worked to the printer (recall the serial no. via printer driver worked) and scanning and faxing via the same port worked as well.

    After spending hours of research on virtually every forum I followed all the hints and querries (like stop and restart printspool service, SNMP de-activation, deleting and reinstalling printer drivers, reboots and so on). And finally when I saw your post I was close to hangin' on in quiet desperation.

    However, in a brother support forum there was a hint re firewall settings and my final strike was the complete de-activation of my personal firewall system (McAfee Firewall) and "heureka", my printer turned back to online - fixed by a magic hand.

    So, I was wondering what actually prevented me from trouble-free printing in my firewall system and I decided to turn it back on from scratch (expecting that I would be prevented from printing again and deactivate firewall components step-by-step). Astonishingly, everything worked fine since with the default settings. So, as a matter of fact I have not (yet) figured it out completely which specific setting (presumably changed by way of automatic update of the firewall software) appears to be the rootcause of the issue.

    Hopefully, these thoughts may help you to sort out your own (maybe specific) issues.
