Is there a way to shutdown windows 7 without being forced to install the updates? There are plenty of times when updates are ready but i want the computer off and ready to move. I hate having to wait for updates when i don't even tell it to do them.

I hear that the shutdown option you desire was requested during the beta of Windows 7 but the request apparently went unheard.

Sorry but, about the only thing I can suggest is to change Windows Updates' settings to allow you when to decide to download and install the updates when you have the appropriate amount of time to do so. My Win 7 system is set to that option so I can't say what the Download updates but let me choose whether to install them option will give you another shutdown option that does not install updates.

    Hi, You can do it easy by Ctrl Alt Del, then shut down is in the bottom right corner, click the arrow and just choose shut down :-) hope it helps

    One more bullshit answer. That does not work. It installs the updates anyway.

    I know this is an old topic, but I was looking for the same thing today and this is the first search hit to come up, but I found an answer! Ctrl-Alt-Del and click the arrow beside the red power button in the bottom right corner, select "Shut Down" rather than "Shut Down and Install Updates" and you're good to go!

    No, that does not work either.

    That ALSO installs the updates.

    a bit long way but  User can log of computer and then shut down without installing updates.

    No, it does NOT work. It installs the updates anyway. No matter whether you choose "shut down" or "install updates and shutdown", it will ALWAYS install the updates.
