Window 7 will can not Backup or let me do a system image backup.

I have just upgraded to Windows 7, but when I try to do a complete backup or system backup, it fails.

I started to do a full backup to dvd, it took hours and stopped  at 84%,  I also tried to backup with system image, but this faild,  I tried to backup to an external drive 80GB drive and window said this wasn’t big enough.

Why cant I  backup Windows 7.

    The Automatic system image backup program has never worked. I finally got a manual backup to work after 13 tries. A system that can't be backed up is worthless. I spent over $200 to upgrade from Windows 7 Home premium to Windows 7 Ultimate just to get the highly praised (in the media) backup program. IMHO it is worthless. Reliable backups are an absolute requirement for my system.

    Has anybody on this forum solved this issue?  Must I write off my $231 investment and buy some non microsoft program?

    Any help or leads would be most appreciated.

    We got it to work by just typing "Backup and Restore" on the Search box and "Run it as an Administrator" ... crazy huh...

    Backup went through smoothly on External Drive and on internal drive.. no errors... probably disabling User Account Control may help...

    I have been playing around with this for 2 days now.

    Unable to Windows 7 Backup and Restore with different errors everytime

    Tried to back up to an external drive: ---> 0x80070015 (Device not Ready)

    Created a new partition on the same drive and tried full system image ---> 0x8078012d "the operation failed due to a device error either with the source or destination

    The request could not be performed because of an IO device error"

    Ran Chkdsk /f/r --->No errors found...

    Retried backup:  Windows 7 Backup and Restore --->  0x81000037: "Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up

    Notice there was a change in Volume Shadow Copy.... any ideas?
