Window 7 will can not Backup or let me do a system image backup.

I have just upgraded to Windows 7, but when I try to do a complete backup or system backup, it fails.

I started to do a full backup to dvd, it took hours and stopped  at 84%,  I also tried to backup with system image, but this faild,  I tried to backup to an external drive 80GB drive and window said this wasn’t big enough.

Why cant I  backup Windows 7.

    Has anybody found an answer to this issue? Having the same problem Louisew. Bought a Sony Vaio Intel i3 Core Processor with 4 GB RAM laptop with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium less than a month ago. Trying to make first backup since this morning on a dual-layer DVD-R. It's been stuck at 51% for around 2-3 hours now. Have not stopped the backup in hopes that it would somehow make even a tiny progress but so far none.

    This link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315255 is very disturbing, but it doesn't apply to Windows 7.  The backup help describes the use of CDs as a backup media and discusses pros and cons.  I bought a Vaio with Windows 7 installed and have the same problem.  In my first backup, I got to the fourth CD (maybe 60-80%) and the system said there was a corrupted sector on the disk and it could not continue with that disk (even though it had just formated the disk in the previous step).  Then, it asked for a new disk, but would not release the last one.  Even going to Explorer and right-clicking to eject gave an error.  I had to stop the backup and then reset the machine to release the disk.  Now, each backup locks up on the first disk, after filling it (rendering it useless, of course).  Still searching for a solution.

    I have same problem. Bought a laptop with Windows 7 installed on it. First backup worked fine. Then misplaced the backup disk, so tried to create a new, full backup. Stops at 67%, and had done this about 5 times. Don't get any error message, it just jams at 67%.
