Original Issue: I was trying to redeem a reward from my account and the phone number i was trying to use was linked to another account i think. So when i made a google voice number to use instead the error: Try another verification method That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method. was shown even when trying to use my original phone number. The FAQ part of the site says that this can happen when someone has unussual activity on their account. I think my question here is how long would it be until i can actually try the new phone number and/or will i need to contact microsoft directly. I also have not found a way to contact Microsoft through the phone.
UPDATE: The Google voice phone number became an issue. When I was contacted back by support they told me In the terms of use we are not allowed to use a Google voice phone number or any other online number. You need to link a phone number from a regular telephone company. I found that mine was already linked to another account I had a long time ago and had to figure out how to get that removed from that account and add it to the new(current) account. If you are still having trouble I would just reach out to support.

If your account is blocked you need to wait 48hrs for that block to be cleared. As for the verification make sure you are using your personal cell phone number to verify. If you are using a VoIP it will never work as a verification option. And if you are having issues beyond that I would recommend contacting Microsoft support.

Thanks for your advice, I ended up being able to claim my gift card. I just had to wait 2 more days than normal 😂😂. I waited 4 days but it's okay. When you waited 48hrs, I was able to put in my phone number again.

I am not sure if I had ever responded to your original reply but yes you do need to add an actual phone number preferably your personal cell number. That is how i solved my issue. If you need help beyond that I would recommend reaching out to their support team. It did take them 3 days to respond to me.
The fix came through adding a real phone number and not a google voice number. Check the update on the post it might possibly help but I also messaged support to gain some information to fix the issue. I will say I had to wait 3 days for support to respond.
