Troubleshooting browser crashes or performance issues on Windows 10
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Yesterday, I wanted to clean up my favorites in Edge (remove duplicates, remove obsolete links). In the midst of this, Edge closed without warning or error message. When I restarted Edge, it closed immediately. I could not select the three dots in the top right. It closed too quickly.
I found several possible solutions including tools in the Settings/Apps menu, other fixes involving removing and then reinstituting the %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe directory
None of these fixes worked.
When I restart Edge, it closes immediately.
How can I get it to work properly?

Tried everything shown in these messages, but Edge still closes immediately after opening:
sfc /scannow
DISM.exe /Online/Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Deleting the files in the dir shown above.
Disk Cleanup both regular and system
Settings, Apps, MS Bing, modify, repair
CCleaner custom clean + Registry
I don't know if this is relevant, but it started immediately after installing the latest TeamViewer update. Dunno. ;-(
Perhaps someone knows the PowerShell commands to force a reinstall of Edge?
I am having this same problem today. I have tried all options, but nothing worked. Does Microsoft or anyone have any other suggestions? I cannot even uninstall EDGE (so that I can reinstall afresh).
Same, This has just started happening to me this morning.
Tried all the advice here, the only thing that 'worked' was renaming the 'default' file and starting the app. But then its like having a fresh install.
I don't know how to recover/restore my favorites, collections, and history. I was also using the extension Tab Session Manager and can recover all those session. Stupidly didn't have backups or restore points set up. =[
Any advice is welcomed.
I finally succeeded in resolving this issue by doing the following:
1 Navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data
2 Rename this folder to: User Data OLD
3 Restart EDGE. This will create a new User Data folder, and you will still have all your previous favorites etc.
This worked very well for me.

This did nothing for me
