Hi All,
I know ... this is old and usually easy ... turn off "Startup Boost" and "Continue running background apps ..."
I have those off and it always worked they way it supposed to.
All of a sudden Edge keeps running.
Indication for still running comes from Ccleaner, which removes all trackers. All of a sudden I get the message:
(paraphrased) Ccleaner can't clean because Edge is still running ... needs to be forced shut down"
In Task manager I also still see 11 Edge processes going even though Edge is shut off.
Again ... "Startup Boost" and "Background Apps ..." are unchecked in settings.
Any suggestions?
I repaired Edge already and nothing changed. Its updated.
PS: I checked in another machine (Win10), same Edge version ... no problems here ... all Edge processes in Task Manager disappear
when shutting Edge down.
Thanks

Thanks. I really appreciate the help.
Video on my machine skip frames with the Intel GPU and it is very annoying especially when watching football and other fast action video.
Doesn't matter what the video is playing on ...Edge, Chrome, Plex...video is not smooth at all.
When I force whatever app plays video to use the NVIDIA GPU, the video is perfect.
Hard to believe an XPS-15 can't play smooth video with default settings but it has been this way for the 4 years I have owned the laptop (WIN10 and WIN11). It has a high-res OLED screen so maybe that has something to do with it? Don't know.
Since I use Edge to watch (HBO)MAX which currently doesn't have a windows app, I have the computer switch the GPU for Edge. I can't say if this was a WIN10 problem for me because I used Chrome then but since switching to WIN11, I kinda like Edge and would like to keep using it.
Edge is definitely loading things in the background because when I open it, I have a full page of new stuff (not cached) up on the screen in the blink of an eye.
It is not really a big problem that Edge continues to run and my GPU doesn't switch back other than I like things to work the way they are supposed to. If I was running the laptop on the battery more than I typically do, maybe it would be a power draw issue for me.
Again ... thanks for the help. Hopefully it will get resolved at some point.
Hello, I have had the same problem I did all that was mentioned, including the gpedit.msc.. When I run Ccleaner it skips the browser. Ccleaner forces Edge to shut down and I noticed a quick flash banner on the low right screen and its Icon of Adguard and Malwarebytes extensions. After Force closing I run Ccleaner again it cleans the browser. I open edge and again then close and run Ccleaner and again skips cleaning the browser. I might be wrong but when edge is forced closed it appears to be the extensions in my browser preventing edge from closing.
do2xg,
why then is my other machine not having the whole problem even though Hardware Acceleration is ON?
Also - Hardware Acceleration was always on before the problem occurred.
