Hi All,
I know ... this is old and usually easy ... turn off "Startup Boost" and "Continue running background apps ..."
I have those off and it always worked they way it supposed to.
All of a sudden Edge keeps running.
Indication for still running comes from Ccleaner, which removes all trackers. All of a sudden I get the message:
(paraphrased) Ccleaner can't clean because Edge is still running ... needs to be forced shut down"
In Task manager I also still see 11 Edge processes going even though Edge is shut off.
Again ... "Startup Boost" and "Background Apps ..." are unchecked in settings.
Any suggestions?
I repaired Edge already and nothing changed. Its updated.
PS: I checked in another machine (Win10), same Edge version ... no problems here ... all Edge processes in Task Manager disappear
when shutting Edge down.
Thanks

Hi Rossco,
it's only happening on Win11 ... NOT on Win10 machine.
The Win11 machine has a 500GB SSD ONLY for the system ... lots of space, also,
i9 Intel, 32 GB Ram ... so ... resources?? I don't know.
In my opinion it's stupid features added to latest versions that require edge to run.
But I'm not an expert.
BTW, as mentioned, I switched to InPrivate a default and Edge is NOT running in the background anymore ...
shuts down as soon as closed.
However, I will check ones in a while if it keeps running in normal mode.
Cheers
Now you've made me want to check my Windows 11 machine. My Windows 10 Home system has had a helpful EDGE update, BUT, I it's still running in the background and not completing all its 'close browser' tasks. Thanks for the reply. I'll be limping along until they fix it. Can't even watch a football game - resources have gone 76% to 100% and cooling fan screaming!
Hi,
no, I don' have any of those symptoms. It must be something else. Actually, I only noticed that Edge runs in the background because ccleaner made me aware of it. Otherwise, I would not even know ... no sucking up of resources. What you described, in my humble opinion, can't be caused by Edge. It must be a huge diversion of resources by something.
Again, it happened only in Win11 machine ... not in Win10 machine, both quite powerful.
Hope you can solve the problem.

Thanks for that. I do know that MY Windows 10 "HOME" edition (with 500G SSD) is somewhat special 22H2.
I am running the latest EDGE says (up to date) 120.0 2210.133. I also compliment EDGE fixes when I see them, but they haven't addressed the resources consumption for me as yet.
This is what I see when EDGE is open right now, but, keeps going above 76% to 100% Memory
