Edge keeps running in the Background

Hi All,

I know ... this is old and usually easy ... turn off "Startup Boost" and "Continue running background apps ..."

I have those off and it always worked they way it supposed to.

All of a sudden Edge keeps running.

Indication for still running comes from Ccleaner, which removes all trackers. All of a sudden I get the message:

(paraphrased) Ccleaner can't clean because Edge is still running ... needs to be forced shut down"

In Task manager I also still see 11 Edge processes going even though Edge is shut off.

Again ... "Startup Boost" and "Background Apps ..." are unchecked in settings.

Any suggestions?

I repaired Edge already and nothing changed. Its updated.

PS: I checked in another machine (Win10), same Edge version ... no problems here ... all Edge processes in Task Manager disappear

when shutting Edge down.

Thanks

I'll see by end of February when 122 comes out.

Otherwise ... I deleted everything "Copilot", turned off in Group Editor and Registry. Also Telemetry!

Still - InPrivate does the job despite all this.

    Cheers

I just clicked on the Download Edge Beta button which I assume is the latest beta version available.

I still don't like the processing power Edge needs when Graphics Acceleration is enabled. That is something that changed in the latest official release and is still present in the beta version. As far as the processes running after close, that has worked well during the limited time I have spent with the beta version. They all shut down with the exception of a minor hiccup I experienced that appeared to have been related to Copilot but I cannot say with 100% certainty.

    Thanks DJK_999,

but I can't find that Beta version 122 anywhere on your link...??

The one under "Download" at the top does not give an indication of 122.

    Thanks

PS: Never mind ... it'll be released end of February anyways for everybody.

The problem seems to be fixed on Edge Beta 122. Edge closes normally and there is no processes in task manager.

    Agreed.

I downloaded the latest beta here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/download/insider?form=MA13FJ

This beta version of Edge works very well and ends all the Microsoft Edge processes upon closing.
