I get so tired of all these tech companies inserting new settings in the apps and operating systems without notice, and usually with default settings that create undesirable behavior. I spend more time trying to debug their **** than trying to get my work done. I often forget what I was actually trying to do because of stupid stuff like this. They can screw up the simplest of things making our lives WORSE, not BETTER. And AI is just getting stared tormenting us.

I didn't know about extensions running in the background even though the session is closed. Maybe this is why Edge slowly sucks up ALL my RAM bringing my laptop to a halt. It did inspire me to buy a NEW laptop hoping for better performance. From a Capitalism standpoint, I guess "mission accomplished."

I just added the --disable-features=msFavoritesMonolineFolder and the folder are back to normal. Thank you for your help with this.

Leave it to Microsoft to cause such calamity!

Thanks for reporting your success. I wasn't sure exactly where to find this "shortcut" where I was supposed to edit the target so I gave up until I saw your post. Turns out there may be multiple shortcuts on the computer. One is on my desktop, but that is not how I launch Edge so changing it there had no effect unless I launched it using that shortcut. BUT, I start Edge from the taskbar. While not obvious, that icon on the taskbar is a shortcut too, but a different one. I made the change there and it indeed restored the colored folders. However it was not obvious how to access the shortcut properties.

I finally discovered if you right-click the icon on the task bar, THEN right-click on "Microsoft Edge" in the popup menu (see attached image), it opens a second popup where the properties are accessible. Not at all obvious and I have an IT degree and spent 30 years in high tech. I don't know how non-technical folks cope. I guess they just accept what comes. Sorry, I don't live like that!

    I agree with you

I have tried tech support with a few companies recently, you usually have to do a meaningless chat the chatbot using an AI bot I suspect. The AI chat usually does not answer a simple, You don't really talk to anyone but an AI chat bot t.
