The (--disable-features=msFavoritesMonolineFolder) modification to the MS Edge shortcut works well for me whenever I open Edge from the shortcut.

BUTif Edge is closed and I open a link from an email or even a link from the Windows 11 "weather/widget panel", then that instance of Edge reverts to displaying the transparent folders.

So at least part of the time I can have my yellow folders displayed, but certainly not all the time.

Unless I'm missing something a more permanent solution is needed.

Noticed the same thing a few days ago and thought I was having a Senior Moment.

I'm glad to know it's real but discouraged to see that it's just going to be another unsolved Microsoft Mystery.
