Web Select Option Gone After Recent Edge Update

Thanks so much for pointing that out. I had been using 'Web Select" for many many months the way it was, and I did not for a few months since about the time of your posting, and it changed where to find it.

You do not know how many hours and days of frustrating research on plants you have saved me, as I can now narrow my search on web pages for certain bits of information. Thank you again mdyoung12

😃 With the most recent update overnight, "Web Select" is back... yay!! (Win11 22H2 Build 22621.2283, Edge Version 117.0.2045.31 (Official build) (64-bit) ) I have sent positive feedback to the Edge team, I encourage you to do the same if the most recent version restores it for you.

I had no idea I was so reliant on the web select feature until it was removed. I'm THRILLED to see it back as an option.

To those unaware,

1. From the EDGE Browser, select the "..." menu dots
2. Settings
3. Select "Appearance" from the menu list on the left
4. Scroll to "Customize Toolbar"
5. Locate "Web Capture Button", toggle the slide button to the right ensuring Web Capture is ON.

First it was web select being moved inside web capture, which by itself is a redundant thing because I completely cannot understand why it has to be there when Windows has a builtin snipping tool which is also being actively developed, and now it's removed from web capture as well? Web select is so much more useful than the stupid web capture. There are plenty of elements on a webpage that are difficult to select, like the content of a link, a button, etc. and with web select, you finally don't need to open the development tools just to copy text part of an element. This makes it a valid addon feature that is going to make people prefer edge to other chromium based browsers while web capture is not.

https://windowsreport.com/microsoft-edge-web-select/ Here it suggests adding "--enable-features=msEdgeAreaSelect" to bring back web select for now and it works to me. It also says Microsoft could be replacing web select with something else. OK that is fine, but why don't you wait for that something to finally be available before you delete the existing one? That doesn't make any sense.

The Edge team, or I should say Microsoft, never fails to disgust users with their destructive upgrades. A bit of digression, Windows use to have amazing backward compatibility, but now it's just keep replacing old components with stuff that looks a little bit nicer but doesn't replicate all the functionalities all the time, encroaching the user experience.

This isn't work for me since some of the web texts are non-selectable. C+S+X can easily solve this problem. I might change another browser

Hi everybody, with a good news!

I found a workaround to the issue in question, by adding the extension Copycat on Google Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/copycat/jdjbiojkklnaeoanimopafmnmhldejbg)

Once installed, you can select a test, right-click and select Copycat / Selection -> Plain text and the pasting it wherever you need to.

It's working for me now. Hope it will be a good solution for you all as well :)

For the EDGE team, we're still hoping you'll solve the problem and make web select available for all versions again.
