Web Select Option Gone After Recent Edge Update

MS Edge Version: 114.0.1823.37

For some reason, I no longer have the Web Select option in the right-click context menu. I still have Web Capture, but Web Select is no longer there. Did MS remove this feature, or is it a bug?

1, Make a shortcut for Edge (On your desktop or startmenu) ,

    2, Right-click, select properties,

3, In "shortcut" tab, input " --enable-features=msEdgeAreaSelect" at the end of Target textbox.

For me, my full Target textbox is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --enable-features=msEdgeAreaSelect

4, Reboot, then open Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+X

I believe that it's working for you that way. Unfortunately for me, that's not what happens. When I:

    1. Add the following to the Edge shortcut's Target: --enable-features=msEdgeAreaSelect
    2. Close the browser and start form freshly updated shortcut
    3. Enable screenshot in Flags (and split screen, although I'm not sure how that's related, and it was already enabled for me even when set to just "Default")
    4. Restart browser

All that happens is that the normal "Web Capture" icon goes away, Ctrl-Shift-X does nothing, and instead I see the old Screenshot icon (its tooltip states that it is activated with Ctrl-Shift-S, which does work). When I click on the Screenshot icon, I get a big square crosshair (like in your bottom screenshot) but the menu that appears still shows only Capture Web Area and Capture Full Page. There is no Web Select button. For fun I even tried opening the new shortcut running as administrator and the behavior was unchanged.

Nice directions to enable the old screenshot capability, but that is not the same thing as Web Select, which lets you actually select text and other HTML bits in context.

In fact, all the screenshot does is an older version of what the much newer Web Capture does: grab pixels to store an image.
