Window Display in MS Edge Randomly Blurs

Good day,

Sometimes when I am using MS Edge, the window display blurs seemingly without cause and stays there for a few minutes. When I say "window display" I mean it only applies to the Edge Work window I have open (I don't remember it occurring with other profile windows), and it isn't the whole window, but only the page display which is everything below the URL line.

At first, I suspected this might have something to do with Sleeping Tabs since it sometimes occurs when I step away from my computer. When I return, if I click anywhere on the page display, it returns to normal. However, I tried disabling sleeping tabs when it occurred randomly (while I was using the page) and it still persisted.

Apart from when I have left the computer for a while and clicking, there is nothing that I have found that consistently restores the normal unblurred screen. I have had some level of success with opening new tabs (this sometimes fixes it), but this does not always work and is not predictable.

Below are two screenshots - normal and blurred:

My current version of Edge is 118.0.2060.1 (Official build) dev (64-bit). I have also reported this through Send Feedback.

If anyone knows about this, I would appreciate any assistance.

Thank you.

119.0.2151.42 (Beta) and 120.0.2186.0 (Dev/Canary) should have the fixes.

I'll reply back with the Edge versions that have the change that allows "no policies" to imply "never blur for inactivity". The change that I previously mentioned that is in Edge Canary is going to require a second fix (due to technical reasons). Hopefully that will land in Canary within 1-2 days; and then both fixes will be taken together to Beta/Stable.

As of Oct 10th this still happening to me, there is some fix or workaround?

What version of Edge are you seeing this in? The original issue should be fixed in 119.0.2116.0+; 118.0.2088.15+; 117.0.2045.41+. This should only be occurring after 30m of idle in Work Profiles (with MAM configured). So if you have a Personal Profile it wouldn't be impacted.

@SSatMS, can you please answer @Casper Swanepoel (spook)'s post that he made on September 28 (it is the top of this page, for me). His post is to the point and describes my - and I'm sure many others' - problem with this blurring. We need to know a specific way to deactivate it (please reply to his original message). While you say that it is "fixed" with those versions, it is not fixed for us until we can successfully deactivate it.

@JM_Taylor Some more information I realized today:

    1. The issue persists.
    2. The issue only happens on work-related profiles.
    3. The issue does not happen on personal profiles.

I read somewhere it has something to do with MAM (mobile application management). This is strange as the tenants (I have 3x business tenants) are all set up differently: one has MS Intune, the other 2x has not but all are affected. So I have to take this with a grain of salt.

As per a Bing search, MS is aware of this issue and refers to THIS thread. Sadly nothing else.
