Ok - This morning I opened Edge (w10) and when I clicked the X to close, it would not close. I tried to minimise and click close, still would not work. I can only close it via task manager or rebooting. Nothing has chnaged since last night, so no idea why it has happened. Is there a simple answer as in apps both uninstall and modify are grayed out.

The PC is mine, not a work one and is W10.

Keith

PS - Just tried with my w10 laptop, am able to close edge as normal. So have no idea why the desktop is playing up. Is there a solution?

@Ephergie or anyone else experiencing this: Would you mind visiting edge://gpu/, clicking the button at the top of the page, and sharing the resulting text file?

For me, the User Graphics Acceleration was the only option on - turned off - worked. Thank you!

I have only just started to have this problem and tried all sorts of ways, firstly of deleting the app entirely, as I dislike this browser, but it won't allow me to do that. So I tried modifying it in all the ways suggested on the various threads, again to no avail as when I got to the installed apps in settings, I couldn't open the 'modify' program to alter it. But today I found a way. I went to the shortcut on my desktop, right clicked and opened up properties. I opened the previous version tab and found it had been updated on 10.5.25 so I restored to the previous version, which it allowed me to do no problem (it also creates a second short cut, so you need to delete the one that applied to the more recent version from your desktop). If links now open up using Edge, I can now once again close it down using the red cross in the top right corner so all is good. I hope this information helps at least some of you.

    1. To close the window: Ctrl+Alt+Del and End Task.
    2. Go to Settings > Apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair
