Edge will not close - any help please?

Ok - This morning I opened Edge (w10) and when I clicked the X to close, it would not close. I tried to minimise and click close, still would not work. I can only close it via task manager or rebooting. Nothing has chnaged since last night, so no idea why it has happened. Is there a simple answer as in apps both uninstall and modify are grayed out.
The PC is mine, not a work one and is W10.

PS - Just tried with my w10 laptop, am able to close edge as normal. So have no idea why the desktop is playing up. Is there a solution?

2025-05-22T14:40:09+00:00 Dealing with the same issue. Task manager is the only way I've found to close out of edge, I believe this just started happening today, so maybe something related to a recent update? Hopefully this issue is fixed soon. Otherwise I'm switching to a different browser.
I downloaded a PDF and opened it and it opened with Edge. I never use Edge otherwise. I couldn't close the one tab. I was able to create a new tab and closed the first. It's just that Edge won't close the last tab. So the browse is functional, it just doesn't want to close the window. Task Manager works but it's just another reason I find Edge annoying and unfriendly.

2025-05-22T20:40:39+00:00 Thank you Larry Rich1! The visual explanation really helped. After I turned it all off and restarted, voila!! I can close microsoft edge without going to the taskbar!
I hope Microsoft is working on a fix for this pain they created!
