Ok - This morning I opened Edge (w10) and when I clicked the X to close, it would not close. I tried to minimise and click close, still would not work. I can only close it via task manager or rebooting. Nothing has chnaged since last night, so no idea why it has happened. Is there a simple answer as in apps both uninstall and modify are grayed out.
The PC is mine, not a work one and is W10.

PS - Just tried with my w10 laptop, am able to close edge as normal. So have no idea why the desktop is playing up. Is there a solution?

Ask yourself why this started happening. My Win11 was working fine until the recent up. By going thru all the steps you posted is temp fix, not a solution of the underlying cause.
I also have the same issue, and I am using an MSI notebook on Windows 11 Pro. It has been going on for about a week now. I, too, can only close by task manager. Now, if I open two windows, the second will close by the red X, but the first window does not.

Wow. After changing those settings, I was able to immediately close Edge. Thank you for the advice. MS is so clunky.
I deleted my Edge profile and created a new profile. No more problems closing Edge.
