Edge will not close - any help please?

Ok - This morning I opened Edge (w10) and when I clicked the X to close, it would not close. I tried to minimise and click close, still would not work. I can only close it via task manager or rebooting. Nothing has chnaged since last night, so no idea why it has happened. Is there a simple answer as in apps both uninstall and modify are grayed out.

The PC is mine, not a work one and is W10.

PS - Just tried with my w10 laptop, am able to close edge as normal. So have no idea why the desktop is playing up. Is there a solution?

    Larry's suggestion worked for me. I find it pretty funny that MS screwed something up that can only be fixed by turning off settings they definitely want you to keep turned on.

    I had the same issue, I saw the original post this morning and ran some tests before posting. This seems to be working for me:

    1 Click three dots at top right

    2 Click settings

    3 Click System and performance

    4 Click System

    Turn off the following:

    I have not determined which is the issue but turning each back on one at a time and testing can be done by you. But this did work for me.

    I had the same issue .

    When i clicked on the 3 dots at top of screen and scrolled to the bottom of the pop up menu , at the very bottom it says "Close Microsoft Edge"

    I clicked on this and it has been fine since .

    Same issue, using either Chrome or Edge. I try to click the close 'X' top right no response/action. it will not close. I have to use task manager to close edge/chrome.

    I will reboot and it will work again, but the same issue returns.

    Also windows keeps auto-dimming, if i don't move my mouse the screen will dim/dark. but will return to regular brightness if i move my mouse.

    too many issue with windows lately.

    I'm experiencing the same issue. This didn't start happening until the update on 05/15/24. I've done everything everyone else has on this thread, but it still won't close unless I end the task in Task Manager.

    MS introduced something in the update that caused this issue!
