Ok - This morning I opened Edge (w10) and when I clicked the X to close, it would not close. I tried to minimise and click close, still would not work. I can only close it via task manager or rebooting. Nothing has chnaged since last night, so no idea why it has happened. Is there a simple answer as in apps both uninstall and modify are grayed out.
The PC is mine, not a work one and is W10.

PS - Just tried with my w10 laptop, am able to close edge as normal. So have no idea why the desktop is playing up. Is there a solution?

Worked right away.
My motor habit is to press Ctrl-W to close Edge after having opened, say, a news article from News toolbar in the systray but, starting today, that stopped closing Edge. Had to use Task Manager.

I had the same issue, I saw the original post this morning and ran some tests before posting. This seems to be working for me:
1 Click three dots at top right
2 Click settings
3 Click System and performance
4 Click System
Turn off the following:
I have not determined which is the issue but turning each back on one at a time and testing can be done by you. But this did work for me.

I did try changing these settings in Edge, restarted Edge and still the same problem but only on certain websites. I'm currently on a remote with a client trying to solve this problem. It seems when I open https://jigsawaday.com/ (which my client has used for years and I have even contacted the admin before) then I'm unable to close. I can still close down tabs except the last one.
Any thoughts?

It's the "Continue running background extensions and apps...." When I check Task Manager, I saw 14 or more extensions still running. Seems another MS update screwed the process. Once I disabled that one item, used Task Manager to kill Edge and all the tasks, restarted Edge, all is good. That's why I like using Chrome.
