Ok - This morning I opened Edge (w10) and when I clicked the X to close, it would not close. I tried to minimise and click close, still would not work. I can only close it via task manager or rebooting. Nothing has chnaged since last night, so no idea why it has happened. Is there a simple answer as in apps both uninstall and modify are grayed out.
The PC is mine, not a work one and is W10.

PS - Just tried with my w10 laptop, am able to close edge as normal. So have no idea why the desktop is playing up. Is there a solution?

I have only just started to have this problem and tried all sorts of ways, firstly of deleting the app entirely, as I dislike this browser, but it won't allow me to do that. So I tried modifying it in all the ways suggested on the various threads, again to no avail as when I got to the installed apps in settings, I couldn't open the 'modify' program to alter it. But today I found a way. I went to the shortcut on my desktop, right clicked and opened up properties. I opened the previous version tab and found it had been updated on 10.5.25 so I restored to the previous version, which it allowed me to do no problem (it also creates a second short cut, so you need to delete the one that applied to the more recent version from your desktop). If links now open up using Edge, I can now once again close it down using the red cross in the top right corner so all is good. I hope this information helps at least some of you.
I've had the same problem for the last couple of days. Various methods given online, but most don't work for me.
Two do work:

For people who continue to have this issue even after disabling the "graphics acceleration" and "startup boost" options, try signing out of your user profile in Edge. This has resolved the issue on a few machines. It would seem one of the recent updates causes problems with profile syncing.
Also worked on my PC, Larry--thank you!
