How can I stop Edge from opening new tabs in a new window?

I just upgraded to Windows 11. I guess that also gave me a new version of Edge. And like most new releases in M$FT, it doesn't work like it used to in even the simplest ways. On my Windows 10 laptop, if I Ctrl-Click on a link in Edge, it opens up a new tab in the same Window. On my Windows 11 laptop, that same action opens up what appears to be a new page, but is really a new tab on a separate page, or something like that. If I close that page, the first page is also closed.

Anyway, what do I need to do to make it work like it used to? Or should I just give up completely and just use Firefox and Chrome?

I checked several websites that suggested solutions, but I could not find the controls they said to use.

    Your methods do not work and you are probably not using the latest version of Edge.

    why would clipboard be OFF by default ?

    i need a new PC (win10 now) and win 11 seems like a load of trash

    No. Why do any of users need reset any of our custom settings. Happened same thing to me after the damn update. This is Microsoft fault. FIX IT. Im not resetting anything until company learns how fix their product that users paid for. And Edge is included into windows. Because of these sloppy devs, us normal mortals have to constantly roll back to this RAM hungry idiotic Chrome. If humans devs are so sloppy then create A.I. that would test every software features prior update. I have been using Edge ever since it came out and now I have to use third party browsers because people wont do their job right. You know what happens when fail at my job? I get recorded discussion. Three of those and Im fired. Guess how many times Edge devs have messed up.
