I just upgraded to Windows 11. I guess that also gave me a new version of Edge. And like most new releases in M$FT, it doesn't work like it used to in even the simplest ways. On my Windows 10 laptop, if I Ctrl-Click on a link in Edge, it opens up a new tab in the same Window. On my Windows 11 laptop, that same action opens up what appears to be a new page, but is really a new tab on a separate page, or something like that. If I close that page, the first page is also closed.
Anyway, what do I need to do to make it work like it used to? Or should I just give up completely and just use Firefox and Chrome?
I checked several websites that suggested solutions, but I could not find the controls they said to use.

So many complaints for so long on a rudimentary issue that no other internet browser has ever had. Please update the setting already...
i found out how to solve that problem. try to search something, at the right of you search bar, you will see 3 stripes (horizontal), click it, go to settings, more, and on results menu, just uncheck 'Open links from search results in a new tab or window Open links from news results in a new tab or window'
That "do not allow edge to open a new tab" does not appear.
I've already tried going to that Settings page and have tried finding a solution using every other Settings page option. When I go to the Settings page as you suggest, it is already set on "1 Row". There are no other Quick Links available. There is no "Open A New Tab" link or setting.
This worked for me, thanks!! I only added Windows 11 this week and boy was that a pain always opening a new tab whenever I looked up something else, the top of my screen was covered with tabs when I'd visit ebay or some place like that.
