Opening and reading PDF files in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
The most recent update to Microsoft Edge (133.0.3065.51), now puts a frame/box around text when adding text to a pdf. How to remove this? It doesn't appear to be an accessibility setting.

Hi KBRWU
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
Based on your description, I understand that you have found that Microsoft Edge (133.0.3065.51) adds a frame around the text when adding text to a PDF, and I understand how you feel!
Please allow me to explain that I am just a support person on the forums and not a member of the Microsoft Edge development team.
Thank you very much for your feedback my friend, I see that there are very many users with the same problem.
So I immediately tested it via my laptop and reproduced the issue without any problem.
But the good news is that I found a solution to this problem.
Here is a distribution step I wrote.
Because in my test environment, I enabled this setting and the problem disappeared.
As shown:
Assuming that there are users who have enabled the “New PDF Viewer” feature in their settings, we can also try to disable it to see if the problem still exists.
I sincerely hope that the above information and programs will help you! Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems or still can't solve them. (Photos related to the question would be great!).
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Best Regards

After that you can now open pdf's in edge browser and use the pdf editing tools text additions tool to add / edit text annotations and have them rendered like before without any rectangle box around it.
Make sense?
Hi! I don't really understand what the instructions mean, so I guess I'll have to get along with the bothersome frame 😑🤷🏻♀️♡♡♡
Thank you for posting this very detailed explanation - it totally works! 😊😊😊
As suggested edge://flags > New PDF Viewer = Default > Enabled > restart browser > make edits to previously added pdf text and the rectangle wrapping it goes away.
Now the question is msft why? Given this behavior was not the case, then it became the case, then users have to find this esoteric answers.microsoft.com forum post discussing enabling new pdf viewer functionality to make it go back to how it was before.
Why not just enable the new pdf view functionality by default.
