I have a problem with printing from the latest version of Microsoft Edge. When I select some text on the browser and choose Print → 'Save As Pdf', the download starts but never finishes. How can I fix this? Is this a common issue for all the users of the latest version of Edge?

I have tried restating the PC, Resetting the browser, stopping all the extension etc. to fix it. but it doesn't work? Should I switch to Chrome?

    [NO LONGER RELEVANT]

Update Edge and the issue is no longer present

    • Version 120.0.2210.77 (Official build) (64-bit)

Microsoft, can you resolve this as many people are affected and using 'Microsoft Print to PDF' does not create a Document Readable PDF (OCR). Else, we're probably forcing users to switch to Chrome/Firefox as downgrading of Edge is not a feasible solution without data loss.

This issue occurs on the following versions of Microsoft Edge

    • Version 120.0.2210.61 (Official build) (64-bit)
    • Version 120.0.2210.61 (Official build) beta (64-bit)
    • Version 121.0.2256.2 (Official build) dev (64-bit)
    • Also fails to render Print Preview

However, it is working normally again on Canary

    • Version 121.0.2274.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)

Other alternative's we're considering to maintain Edge:

    EDIT

We've decided to go with disabling 'Save as PDF' in Edge for the time being, while instructing staff to print using 'Microsoft Print to PDF' or an alternative PDF printer (i.e. CutePDF), or just ask them to rely on Chrome/Firefox.

Once the Edge application has an update that fixes 'Save as PDF' we will remove the PrinterTypeDenyList registry key from clients which will re-enable 'Save as PDF'

I can confirm that if you chose "Microsoft Print as PDF" instead of "Save as PDF" in the Print option Page the functionality works.

Sure. But "Save as PDF" and "Microsoft Print to PDF" produce different PDF results. The former is text searchable while the latter is an image saved in PDF format. Some people need searchable PDFs for further analysis and work, that's why I think the proposed temporarily workaround could be useful.

I am having the same problem with Version 120.0.2210.61 (Official build) (64-bit). Did Modify from the apps as suggested in another post which reinstalled Edge but it did not resolve the problem.

Yes, it is a bug. It was fine yesterday morning. Edge was updated and then it stopped working. I'm running on Windows 10 from a local account. I've tried rebooting and resetting settings, but no joy. Chrome works nicely though. - TC

Microsoft Print to PDF is a half measure at best. That option "works" if you don't want to have the ability to search through a PDF, select text, or copy paste anything to or from the document. Microsoft print to PDF flattens everything.
