iCloud.com encountered an error while trying to connect to the server

I get the pop-up that says "iCloud encountered an error connecting to the server". However, if I connect to a mobile hotspot, iCloud works without any issue on Edge!

Observations

  • I am able to access iCloud through my iOS device (iPhone) connected to the same high-speed broadband Wifi connection.
  • iCloud.com is accessible on Edge browser only if my PC is connected to the internet via a mobile (4G/5G) hotspot connection.
  • The issue does not occur at all on Firefox (irrespective of the connection mode)!

Any clues on how to solve this issue? Looks like it's an Edge issue on Windows 11 when connected to a broadband Wifi connection.

Hey,

I'm just here to confirm that disabling IPv6 helped me resolve this issue.

Alternatively, switching to Google Public DNS also resolved the issue as per users on Reddit. To know step-by-step instruction to switch to Google Public DNS check out this guide -- <link removed>

    I Spent endless time with apple support. After trying all sort of trouble shooting, we found a (hopefully temporary) workaround: the connection works if instead of going straight to the browser I connect to interenet (to the same Wi-Fi router!) through the hot spot of the iphone.

    Any idea what couls cause this?

    Yes, Correct.

    iCloud.com works on Edge/Chrome only if you switch your connection from a broadband Wifi to a 4G/5G Hotspot Wifi.

    Using wifi and ethernet connections through my router:

    Chrome cannot reliably access icloud.com

    Edge cannot reliably access icloud.com

    Firefox can access icloud.com without any issues

    Sync2Cloud (syncs calendar data between Outlook and my icloud account) cannot reliably connect to icloud.com

    Using my iPhone's personal hotspot with computer wired to iPhone:

    All four apps listed above work without any problems.

    Network properties for my iPhone indicate a different DNS address (remember, Firefox has a unique DNS mechanism).

    Now, what is different about Firefox vs Chrome and Edge that allows Firefox to access icloud.com no matter what?

    What is it about a cell phone hotspot that allows successful access to icloud.com while typical wifi and ethernet connections do not?
