Why are links in emails automatically opening in Edge, when all other browsers have been uninstalled/deleted. I haven't changed anything so what is going on?

Having changed nothing on PC settings, why all of a sudden, are links from Outlook emails automatically opening in Edge.

I have deleted all but Google Chrome (cant seem to delete Edge), which is my default browser so nothing should be opening in any other browser, including Edge.

I do NOT want to use Edge and seems like it is choosing to open without me allowing, which surely is an inappropriate use of Microsofts abilities..

I'm Jen. I'm an independent advisor and would happily help you figure this out.

Are you experiencing this while using your Outlook desktop app? Also, did this happen after an update? It might have been changed to Microsoft Edge instead of your default browser. To change this, go to File > Options > Advanced > File and browser preferences and select your preferred browser.

    Resolution :

    Please make the following changes

    1. Outlook > Files> Options> Advanced > Open Links in Default Browser.
    2. Teams> Settings > Files and Links> Open Links in Default Browser.

    Had the same problem and this fixed it.

    But the real problem was with Microsoft not respecting my preferences and setting their own when updating the software. I made a choice - LEAVE IT ALONE.

    What a pain it is for people to have to do the research to figure out how to fix something that they were sure was not broken to begin with.

    Shame again on Microsoft!!

    I absolutely agree. It's a shocking abuse of power, since MS dominates the desktop email client space and probably correctly assumes that a large percentage of users won't figure this out and will become happy new brainwashed Edge users.

    Edge is a good browser, but Microsoft is undervaluing the loss of trust this subterfuge causes.
