Why is Microsoft Edge not responding, won't open?

Xbox One, Microsoft Edge won't open. Was working yesterday, now it doesn't.

Microsoft support is of no help, if they don't disconnect your call then, they want you to do everything you already have done before even contacting them: I already did a soft reboot, hard reboot, clear local games, check updates (cant update Microsoft Edge), keep apps/games updated, etc...

Okay, I've had the same issue as everyone else, have done everything including totally erasing every hint of edge from my system including the registry, and a hundred other things. WHY does this work? Because it worked!

If Microsoft Edge is installed and appears in your Start menu but doesn’t open when you try to launch it, this solution might help. I found it in the YouTube comment section, and it worked for me!

    1. Navigate to the following location:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application
    2. Find the file msedge.exe and rename it to:
      msedge..exe
(Note: You need to add an extra period . before .exe. If the file is already named "msedge" without ".exe", just add a single period at the end like this: msedge.)
    3. Now, create a shortcut for the newly renamed file:
Right-click on msedge..exe (or msedge.) and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
    4. Try opening the browser from the new shortcut on your desktop. It should work now!

    Hi,

Have you tried putting .old in the "User Data" folder. As soon as you open Edge, the system itself will recreate a new folder.

    path: %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\

    folder: User Data.old

Thanks, that worked a treat for me! Can I now delete that original folder?
