How can I get Edge to restore all the tabs I had open last session?

Hi Barry, I read your link and the video which showed it in action, so, it is a solution to stop people closing their very last tab by mistake, sadly it is just one of many ways people lose all their tabs. It wouldn't though help anyone actually be able to recover any of their tabs when they lose a whole load of tabs in one go, which, in the vast majority of cases occurs when they turn their computer off, or just choose to do a restart for whatever reason, then when they go to turn it back on again, they forget to press the "restore all tabs" option, if they have it set, or the option just does not appear, or for whatever reason they lose all their tabs, your solution unfortunately does not help them at all to restore their tabs, that is when my solution will be able to restore all their tabs and all their windows, your solution does not enable people to restore tabs under any circumstances at all. The other main occasion when people lose lots of tabs is when the computer just turns off for whatever reason, someone pulls the plug out or it crashes or whatever other reasons, again your solution would not be able to restore any of their tabs. So for all these situations, where people have actually lost all their tabs already for the above or similar reasons, your solution can't actually restore any tabs at all, it is just one way to try and stop people losing their tabs, but also only if they happen to lose it for that one sole specific reason of closing their last tab by mistake, it wouldn't help people at all when they lose their tabs for all the other reasons people lose their tabs. My solution would actually work on that one specific event you are talking about as well, if they did not have your protection in place, or is it failed for some reason, in both those instances they could use my solution to get all their tabs back no problem at all.

Not knocking your added protection for someone, but hopefully you can see it would not help anyone trying to actually recover their tabs, in all the above circumstances, not just the one circumstance you are talking about.

Incidentally actually, thinking about the video on your link, it always only actually shows someone clicking on the X for the last tab itself to close it, or closing the last couple of tabs individually, then a new tab appearing automatically to keep Edge open, but never does it show them shutting the entire Window, by clicking on the X in the top right hand corner, which would instantly close all the 100/200/300/however many tabs you have open in that window and all other windows you have open , which clicking on that X would close, and that is what most people do accidentally, not just click on the last tab (which is the only one open anyway, so I guess they wouldn't worry too much about it, they would just reopen Edge and simply reopen that last single tab they closed?), nor does it say anywhere in the information on that page anything about it being able to save any tabs at all if you click on the X in the top right hand corner to close the existing window with all its open tabs and all other windows containing all your countless other opened tabs, so obviously it will be unfortunately completely useless in that much much more common event than the one your solution covers.

So actually, to solve that much more often occurring accident of people closing all their windows, rather than just the one single last tab your solution is talking about, I have a solution you might want to take note of - there is an automatic warning you can really easily set up to instantly appear on your screen if you accidentally click on the X in the top right closing and losing all your windows and tabs, just do this - Settings, Appearance, Ask before closing a window with multiple tabs. Then as soon as you accidentally hit the windows closing X, nothing at all will close and you will get a warning square appear asking you to check if you meant to actually close all your windows! - good huh? 😀, and this has worked for me on countless occasions, saving me then having to use my other solution which would recover all my tabs and windows anyway.

I will not install Chrome that would mean taking up more of my laptops memory not less.

This way seems far simpler and effective.

Time to switch to Chrome which does not seem to suffer from the catastrophic loss of data problem being experienced by others (and now me!) in this thread?

I'm trying to re-create the last year of my browser life but it's incredibly tedious and not all my data was saved, history is only three months' worth.

My sessions folder was empty of old files big enough to contain more than a dozen sessions each with 5-10 or more tabs in them.

MSFT, you really need to solve this problem of browser data disappearing into the ether, I presume as a result of windows updates.

This way seems far simpler and effective.
