    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

If the read-aloud option in Microsoft Edge has stopped working, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the issue. Here's a structured approach to diagnosing and fixing the problem:

    Check for Updates

First, ensure both Microsoft Edge and Windows 10 are up to date. An outdated browser or OS can cause compatibility issues with features like read-aloud.

    • Update Microsoft Edge: Open Edge, click on the three dots (…) in the top right corner > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge. Edge will automatically check for and install any available updates.
    • Update Windows 10: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click Check for updates.

    Restart Your Computer

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve unexpected issues by clearing temporary glitches in the system.

    Check Edge’s Read-Aloud Settings

Ensure that the read-aloud feature is properly configured in Edge:

    • Right-click on any webpage and see if the “Read aloud” option is available in the context menu. If it’s there, select it to see if it works from this entry point.
    • Try accessing the read-aloud feature from a different method, such as going to Settings and more (three dots) > Read aloud.

    Try a Different Voice

The problem might be related to a specific voice not working correctly.

    • In Edge, while using read-aloud, click on the Voice options (voice settings icon) next to the play/pause button. Try selecting a different voice from the list and see if the issue persists.

    Reset Microsoft Edge

If the issue is still not resolved, you might need to reset Microsoft Edge. This can help eliminate any settings or extensions causing the problem.

    • Go to Edge Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values. This will reset Edge settings without deleting your bookmarks, history, and saved passwords.
    • Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix page display problems. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

    Check Accessibility Settings in Windows

Windows 10 has accessibility settings that might affect the read-aloud feature.

    • Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Narrator and ensure that the settings here aren’t interfering with Edge’s read-aloud functionality.

    Disable Extensions

Sometimes, browser extensions can interfere with browser features. Try disabling all extensions to see if the read-aloud feature works again.

    • Go to Edge Settings > Extensions and disable all extensions. If read-aloud starts working, enable extensions one by one to identify the culprit.

    Use the Immersive Reader

For certain types of content, using Edge's Immersive Reader feature might provide a better experience, including read-aloud functionality.

    • Click on the Immersive Reader icon on the right side of the address bar when available (or press  F9 ) and then try the read-aloud feature.

    Create a New User Profile

A corrupted user profile might cause issues with browser features. Try creating a new user profile in Edge to see if the issue is related to your current profile.

    • Go to Edge Settings > Profiles > Add profile.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best regards
