Edge is sharing Chrome site logins. How do I prevent this?

Hello,

I have a site where I have two accounts. I used to be able to have one of them logged in with Edge and one with Chrome, then by running the right browser, I could be logged in with the right profile.

Now, Edge seems to have started copying the login across from Chrome, i.e. I can't separate them. Logging in on Chrome logs in with the same credentials on Edge which isn't what I want.

How do I turn this off so that each browser can log in with different credentials and stay logged in with those credentials? I've found lots of stuff about syncing my MS account across devices, but this is on one single device and two browsers that I want to be completely unrelated.

    • Is the computer joined to a domain, e.g. at work or school?

    No.

    • Do you have more than one account listed under Accounts used by other apps?

    No.

    • Do you have more than one profile configured? (Click on the profile picture to see.)

    No.

    • Do you sign in to the profile(s)?
      • If so, do you use a Microsoft Account or a 'Work or school account'?

    Microsoft account. Does that answer the question? FWIW I also use that account on my laptop where I have not seen this issue.

    • On which site are you seeing this behaviour? The only one I noticed it is this one, but it’s also the site I use the most. https://www.deviantart.com
      • Does this site allow for different types of sign-in, e.g. Sign in with Microsoft | Google | Facebook | Email? No.
      • Do you sign in at this site with a Microsoft Account or a 'Work or school account'? No.

    This issue was bothering me allot as well. Here's what I did to fix the issue in Edge Browser:

    Edge Browser:

    1. Goto Settings -> Profiles

    edge://settings/profiles

    Click Import browser data -> Choose what to import

    Unchecked all the options and checked only personal info

    1. Stay on profiles: edge://settings/profiles

    Click Import browser data on each launch -> Click Turn Off

    1. Clear cookies and browsing history

    Goto Settings -> Privacy -> Clear Browsing Data

    edge://settings/privacy

    Click choose what to clear -> Select All Time -> Select All Options -> Click Clear Now

    1. Restart your Edge Browser

    Thanks. It’s hard for me to try this currently as I uninstalled Chrome too for other reasons, but I plan to reinstall it so I will try it then it the problem reoccurs.

    @¡Firedog, another explanation occurred to me when I read that. Edge doesn’t need to share the sessions for this to happen. If it does the transfer when it starts ever single time it starts, you’d get something similar. I’m now questioning whether logging in in Edge affected Chrome or if it was just one way. Unfortunately I’m not currently in a position to try it.

    It’s not an at-startup syncing that’s causing it, at least for me. If I sign out and sign in to a different account in Chrome, as soon as I hit refresh in edge it shows the same, new account signed in.

    If the problem occurs again, I’ll try that. I’m curious and I’ve just reinstalled Chrome but it’s OK so far…
