Edge is sharing Chrome site logins. How do I prevent this?

Hello,

I have a site where I have two accounts. I used to be able to have one of them logged in with Edge and one with Chrome, then by running the right browser, I could be logged in with the right profile.

Now, Edge seems to have started copying the login across from Chrome, i.e. I can't separate them. Logging in on Chrome logs in with the same credentials on Edge which isn't what I want.

How do I turn this off so that each browser can log in with different credentials and stay logged in with those credentials? I've found lots of stuff about syncing my MS account across devices, but this is on one single device and two browsers that I want to be completely unrelated.

I did this, it worked. Now some time afterwards this setting reset and the issue came back. I had to look for this answer again to remember what had to be done.

Two concerns here: 1- by looking at the previous answers some people said "it seems impossible for this to happen". OMG I can't believe more people are not aware of this issue. This is really scary. And 2, changing the setting will work until Edge change it back to sync the profile!

This didn't work for me! And it's SO frustrating!

I have a new computer - windows 11 - and the linking of accounts between Edge and Chrome is driving me crazy!

I log into gmail on Chrome and Edge will log in to that same account. This is after I've already cleared browsing data from Edge.

It would be helpful if you could give a few more details about what's happening.
- In Edge, open the page edge://settings/profiles/importBrowsingData/importOnLaunch and check that any option is turned Off.
- "I've already cleared browsing data from Edge" - which data have been cleared? Check on both these pages: edge://settings/clearBrowserData and edge://settings/clearBrowsingDataOnClose.
- With Chrome closed down, and with no cookies present for [*.]google.com in Edge, what happens when you visit Gmail?

  You are invited to Sign in to continue to Gmail?
  
  Something else?
- "Edge will log in to that same account." Please explain.
  When you visit a site that requires a login, Edge may do its best to sign you in automatically if you have the option to Fill website password and sign in automatically selected on the page edge://settings/passwords. You'll find it under Autofill passwords. This won't happen, of course, unless you elect to Autofill passwords and you have the appropriate password saved. Clearing browser data may remove passwords unless the option to do so is deselected on the 'clear browser data' pages.
It sounds as if your Edge settings need reviewing. I can't help with what goes on in Chrome, I'm afraid.

Last, I'd ask why you feel it necessary to use more than one browser to access your Gmail accounts. Is it just to keep the mail accounts separate from each other? If so, Edge has ways of doing just that.

Just want to add that I'm observing the same so-called "bizarre and impossible" behavior. I log into gmail on Chrome and Edge will log in to that same account. This is after I've already cleared browsing data from Edge.
