Edge is sharing Chrome site logins. How do I prevent this?

This is a humongous problem and deleting the cache does not solve it. Edge is sharing session info with Chrome and, if this cannot be fixed, I can't use Edge. This is my core use case for Edge and this kind of surprise behavior is intolerable.

Same problem here. How to stop that?

I do not want Edge to log my Chrome sessions in and out.

Anyway for security reasons, how to stop that?

I'm sorry, but I don't know how this can happen. Logins are stored in folders in the user profile, and I can't see of any way for a website open in one browser to access the login data (credentials and cookies) from a different browser. I hope you've reported this so the Edge team can investigate: press Alt-Shift-i to send feedback.

The reason for two independent browsers is if you have two separate log ins for the same sight and want to be logged in at the same time.

This is one of the main justifications for using different browser profiles for different purposes. Just to illustrate, here's a desktop showing showing three windows all open at the same website: outlook.com.

Each window is open in a different browser profile and each profile has its own login data stored for specific accounts at the website. Because I happen to sign in to the browser profile with the same Microsoft Account as that whose email page I'm visiting, the profile pictures are the same for the profile (in the top bar of each window) and for the email account. It won't necessarily be like this.

I know the screenshot is chaotic, and I wouldn't normally have my email windows cascaded like this. It's just to illustrate using multiple accounts at the same website without having to use a third-party browser.

This is happening for me too. Windows 11, Edge updated or something, and now any website I am logged into in Chrome, I am automatically logged into on Edge. Also, if I log out of a website in Edge it logs me out in Chrome. The two browsers should work independently of each other. It used to work this way on my PC and works this way on my work PC.

For example, I have several business logins at the same bank and sometimes I need to look at both businesses' data at the same time. I can do this at work by signing into one on Chrome and the other on Edge. However, I cannot do this now on my home office PC that runs Windows 11 and some update to Edge.

Same issue with me. Chrome is my day to day browser. Firefox and Edge are used for browsing sites that I am logged into without logging in and printing the odd webpage that Chrome can't render properly.

I was surprised and concerned to find that Edge had all my autofill and credential information stored in Chrome. Reading this very helpful forum I suspect that when Win 10 was set up or Edge run for the first time either our IT manager or I selected an option that allowed Edge to import Chrome Data (I hope that feature or setting wasn't set automatically without any user intervention!).Following the steps here I seem to have removed (from Edge) all passwords taken from Chrome.

Lots of confusion and issues using MS products without aggravation and interruption of productive flow these days - e.g. various free and paid tiers of Office 365 depending on what other services you purchase (e.g. OneDrive) with lots of features that have never worked or existed in desktop Office now being promoted for 365 - e.g. an autosave / AutoRecover functionality that has never worked on Desktop (despite changing autosave frequency to "every minute" or "every 5 mins", and specifying an autosave location), file sync issues with desktop office apps and OneDrive resulting in constant nags in Office telling me to deal with unsaved documents only to find nothing is wrong, contention and confusion between my personal MS account and now Work MS account (required at work because apparently, remote access to the exchange server doesn't work unless the account is an online one) and so on.

I feel that Microsoft - having made so many false starts and cockups in the web / internet space & now embracing the SOAS model (and who wouldn't prefer locked in customers with a perpetual revenue stream) is now trying to implement over 20 years of google style service lock in.

The google analogy is clearly apparent with WIN 10 OS. MS is changing the Settings UI elements, names, features, nested locations of options etc so quickly that web searching for issues often leads to results that don't apply to current versions or more recent updates - even on MS's own pages.

Now it only remains to be seen if I will find that Edge has mysteriously managed to import all my Chrome data again. Very murky. It also remains to be seen if I will be able to submit this post as the last time I tried to submit it my ad blockers caused this page to hang.
